The Collections of the Museum für Gestaltung Zürich
Is everything design today? The Museum für Gestaltung Zürich is looking into this question with the presentation of its collection, which has never been previously exhibited to this extent. The whole spectrum of the museum’s internationally important Applied Art, Graphics, Poster and Design Collection will be on show in a scenography by the renowned Swiss design studio Atelier Oï. The overriding theme is the observation of processes of social and cultural change. Social codes and norms determine what is regarded as modern and fashionable at what time. Fashion and trends change in accordance with the spirit of the times and reflect changing attitudes in society. A variety of visual and content-related input on the theme enables the question of changing values to be examined. In addition, the exhibition shows the background to well-known and familiar articles of everyday use. It thus jogs the memory and allows objects from the past to tell their stories again.
